Features include powerful new Node.js de-bugging and performance tools, unified directory services, billing and financial management, updated cloud operations dashboard and toolkit, workflow APIs and the ability to API provision and mount NFS storage in a customer machine. "Joyent has maintained a constant focus on being the best in terms of delivering end-user services to our customers, operating our systems with excellence, and always, designing ways to introduce and add new capabilities fast," said Jason Hoffman, Founder and CTO, Joyent. Also, the company named Henry Wasik as chief executive officer. Under Henry's leadership, Joyent seeks to accelerate its growth in the large and rapidly growing cloud Infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) market. According to Gartner, the market will surpass $24 billion by 2016.
Telefonica launches Instant Servers. Telefonica Digital announced the global launch of Instant Servers, an Infrastructure-as-a-Service offering that delivers on-demand, high performance cloud computing for developers, digital businesses and large enterprises. Built on Joyent's cloud infrastructure, Instant Servers' virtual server can automatically and instantly grow in capacity by 400 percent to handle large spikes in usage or traffic. Data centers backing the new service are located in Madrid, Spain and London, UK. “With the launch of Instant Servers, Telefónica Digital seeks to meet the needs of thousands of businesses that require a cloud services platform that is easily scalable, with low latency and totally trustworthy, enabling them not only to rapidly respond to their own needs, but also to the expectations of their customers," said Carlos Morales, Telefonica Digital's Cloud and M2M Director. "This can all be done with significant cost savings as customers only pay for the type of cloud services they require and the time they use them for.”
RightScale expands in Australia. Cloud management company RightScale announced its expansion into Australia. The entry into the Australian market will provide local sales, support and professional services for the RightScale cloud management platform, which enables organizations to easily deploy and manage business-critical applications on public, private, and hybrid clouds. “We’re entering the Australian market to build on our success in the APAC region,” said Josh Fraser, Senior Vice President of Business Development and Sales at RightScale. “We believe strongly in the Australian market and we’ve already had early wins with customers. We plan to apply our collective experience from working with both early-adopter and large-scale customers to the Australian market, thereby helping businesses deploy to the cloud with less risk and more agility.”
