Springfield, Ohio Developer Plans Data Center

A business park in Springfield, Ohio has announced plans to develop a 100,000 square foot data center as part of the next phase of the project. The Nextedge Applied Research and Technology Park wants to build the data center on a 17-acre parcel of land, and said it expects to have an "announcement regarding the center" within 30 days.

The park, located in the Columbus-Dayton-Cincinnati business corridor, features dual power feeds and fiber connectivity. Current tenants include LexisNexis, data analytics specialist Qbase and Avetec, which focuses on high-performance computing and advanced data modeling and simulations. Avetec is overseeing the completion of a fiber network, which is supported by a U.S. Department of Energy grant and a partnership with the City of Springfield, the Turner Foundation, and local schools and universities.

Ray Hagerman, the president of Nextedge, said the park also plans a technology incubator, and has hired a sales and marketing director to help establish ties with local universities and raise the park's profile. "Nextedge is in full swing; we had a great 2007 and look forward to a great 2008," Hagerman told attendees at a business luncheon Monday in Springfield.
