Secure hosting specialist Carpathia Hosting is seeking managed hosting customers for a new data center in Sacramento through a joint marketing relationship with the facility’s developer, Advanced Data Centers (ADC).

Carpathia, a fast-growing provider based in Ashburn, Virginia, disclosed its plans for a Sacramento facility on its web site, noting the available space at ADC’s 237,000 square mission-critical facility at McClellan Park on McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, California.

The ADC facility is one of the industry’s “greenest” data center developments. The project became the first data center to gain Platinum certification under the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) standard from the U.S. Green Buildings Council, the national benchmark for the design and construction of high performance green buildings. The USGBC pre-certified the ADC facility for a LEED score of 50 points, above the 45 points required for LEED Platinum, the highest certification tier.

ADC announced its LEED status last June, and has been seeking tenants for its wholesale data center space. Carpathia is marketing the facility to enterprise customers for managed hosting services, and would lease space from ADC to host and support those customers.

The Sacramento site has 90 megawatts of power capacity, and will be able to support customer power loads of up to 250 watts per square foot. The building will use air-side economizers and also make use of recycled "grey water" from the Air Force base as a redundant water supply for its chiller infrastructure.

ADC recently completed construction of a new 45 megawatt substation at the site. The local utility, the Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD) acquires energy through hydro generation, cogeneration plants and renewable technologies in addition to purchasing power on the wholesale market.

Carpathia Hosting offers secure managed hosting services for federal and enterprise customers with high storage and bandwidth requirements. Last week the company announced the opening of its Toronto data center. The expansion caps a period of rapid growth for Carpathia, which now manages more than 18.5 petabytes of storage and pushes over 350 Gigabits per second of content. The company also has data centers in Los Angeles and Sacramento in California; Phoenix, Ariz.; Kansas City, Mo.; and Ashburn and Harrisonburg, Va.

EDITOR'S NOTE: An earlier version of this story reported that Carpathia was already a tenant at the ADC facility, which is not the case. Sorry for the confusion.
