Dallas data center operator DataBank will construct a new 36,000 square foot data center in the former Federal Reserve Bank building at 400 South Akard in Dallas, the company said this week. The new facility, which features a 24 inch raised floor and 3 megawatts of initial UPS power, will be operational in early October.

"We have had great success in deploying over 40,000 square feet in our existing data centers and we are rapidly expanding to meet the demands of our current clients," says Patrick Guadalajara, President of DataBank. "With over 25 megawatts of diverse utility power servicing our building along with over 50,000 square feet reserved for future expansion, we are uniquely positioned to facilitate the growth in our client's businesses while continuing to diversify our customer base."

Guadalajara and DataBank chairman Brandon Freeman are veterans of LayerOne, a colocation and peering services provider that was acquired by Switch and Data in 2005. DataBank offers colocation and enterprise managed services, with a focus on business continuity and compliance services. In addition to its Dallas data center, DataBank provides connectivity services to Victory Park, a master-planned Dallas office and retail development from Ross Perot Jr.'s Hillwood development firm.

400 South Akard is a seven-story building constructed in 1921 to house the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. In 2000 the building was renovated as a technology and telecom hub, taking advantage of security features from its use as a banking facility. The building includes 256,000 rentable square feet of rentable space.
