Day One Coverage of NGDC
First-day coverage highlights of the The Next Generation Data Center conference.
August 8, 2007
The Next Generation Data Center conference got underway yesterday at the Moscone Center in San Francisco. Here's some first-day coverage highlights from around the web:
eBay's Back End: InfoWorld covers the keynote from eBay research scientist Paul Strong, who describes the database structure for the auction giant's incredibly busy web site.
Amazon Web Services: CRN provides an overview of the presentation from Amazon CTO Werner Vogels, who spoke about his "love/hate affair" with data centers.
Big Green Linux: Jason Hiner at TechRepublic reviews some of the product announcements from the show, including IBM's Big Green Linux initiative and Dell's unveiling of virtualized desktops running Windows and Linux.
The NGDC show is being staged jointly with Linux World this year, which was the focus of an InternetNews.com article, which discussed whether the new format was sufficiently Linux-centric. (I'm reminded of an effort a few years back in which Linux enthusiasts used a glitch in the patching system from Phantasy Star Online as a hack to get Linux running on the Nintendo GameCube. For some folks, I think the world will never be sufficiently Linux-centric). Dan Kusnetzky at ZDNet picks up on the InternetNews piece and discusses the evolution of the LinuxWorld show.
