Dimension Data has acquired enterprise cloud specialist OpSource, which will become part of a new Cloud Solutions Business Unit at Dimension Data. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The deal combined two companies with ties to Japanese telco giant NTT, which acquired Data Dimension late last year. NTT Investment Partners holds a 5 percent stake in OpSource, and the OpSource public cloud platforms are hosted in NTT America’s data centers in Virginia and California, with expansion into one of NTT Europe’s data centers planned for coming months. OpSource has more than 600 customers for its managed hosting and cloud computing services, including enterprises, service providers and Software-as-a-Service Independent Software Vendors (ISVs).
"Our decision to accelerate our focus on cloud services aligns to our long-standing strategy to become a services-led business," said
Brett Dawson, the Chief Executive Officer of Dimension Data. "Over the past few years, Dimension Data has been building cloud-related skills and capabilities in the areas of virtualization, data center and storage, managed services and hosting, and IT outsourcing – all critical to enabling cloud architectures for our clients."
“OpSource brings a rich set of services, a sound cloud architecture, and extensive experience in cloud services that will meet immediate client needs - in addition to a cloud infrastructure which supports development and growth in this space," Dawson continued. "We believe OpSource provides us with an accelerated time-to-market as their infrastructure and services are well-established and tested."
OpSource CEO Treb Ryan said that the migration to the cloud model is complex for enterprise customers, and requires in-depth understanding of an organisation’s entire IT infrastructure, architecture, and relative interdependencies and risks. "An understanding of IT integration across disparate multi-technology, multi-geography, IT environments is critical to evolving toward cloud-based architectures," said Ryan. "We believe that as part of Dimension Data, OpSource will be better able to capitalize on the global cloud computing market opportunity."
