Horizon Data Center Solutions has expanded its new data center in the Dallas market, leasing 12,500 square feet of additional data center space in Carrollton, Texas, the company said this week. Horizon recently reported active growth in its first data center, a 25,000 square foot facility in a Digital Realty Trust (DLR) building at 4025 Midway in Carollton. The new lease is a second property Digital Realty owns in Carrollton at 2440 Marsh Lane.

The expansion by Horizon continues the active growth for managed hosting, colocation and web hosting providers in the Dallas data center market. Horizon says it anticipates adding a third Dallas-area data center. The company says its customers include a large private medical center, energy and financial services companies and "one of the world’s largest entertainment companies."

"Dallas continues to be a prominent area for the growth of data centers, not only because of the pro-business environment of Texas, but because of the secure location of Dallas," said Bryan Loewen of GVA Cawley Mission Critical Connect, which represented Horizon in the leasing deal. "It’s an area that is not plagued by natural disasters like hurricanes or earthquakes, and Dallas has always been a technology hub."

“There is a growing need for data center security and back-up for critical data in all sorts of businesses," said Lance Smith president and CEO of Horizon Data Center Solutions. "Some of the growth is being driven by regulations for securing personal medical or financial data, while other growth is fueled by the online transactions that are such a huge part of our growing Internet economy.”

Horizon recently commissioned a $2 million private fiber ring from AboveNet that will allow the company’s clients to conduct real-time replication for disaster recovery and continuity between data centers. The first two nodes of that ring went online this month.
