Happy IPv6 Launch Day, everyone! And what does that mean? Who better to explain this than Vint Cerf, a "founding father" of the Internet and now Chief Internet Evangelist at Google. When the Internet launched operationally in 1983, Cerf recalls, no one dreamed that there might one day be billions of devices and users trying to get online. Today's event marks the unofficial kickoff for the Internet transition from Internet Protocol v4 to IPv6, which will dramatically expand the number of addresses available for web sites, as well as millions of mobile devices with Internet access. Naturally, June 6 (6/6) seemed the perfect day for it. In this video, Cerf discuses why we need IPv6 and provides some context for today's launch of the transition.
