Today is Halloween. Unless you live in New Jersey (home to DCK headquarters), where the damage from SuperStorm Sandy has postponed the holiday until Monday. If you were spared Sandy's wrath, it's a good time to review your disaster readiness plans and think about ways to keep your data center running. Since it's Halloween, it's a good time to consider a wider threat matrix.
Fortunately, Bill Dougherty of RagingWire has put together a holiday guide that combines the best elements of both tasks, titled "Is Your Data Center Ready for the Zombie Apocalypse." It's full of strategies you might not have considered in your design charette, like putting mantraps on every hallway in the facility. "If an infection breaks out inside our facility, it is critical to contain the zombies in specific zones," writes Dougherty. "Also, we removed crash-bar overrides to the doors. The fire marshal has cited us for this, but after the apocalypse we won’t need permits anyway."
With the week we're having on the East Coast, I think a lot of us could use a smile. If you'r one of them, go read Bill's article.
