Web hosting company iWeb Group Inc. (TSX:IWB) said today that it will add a third data center in its core market of Montreal. The 22,700 square foot facility will accommodate an additional 850 cabinets, and is scheduled to open in December.
"A fundamental component of our strategy is to grow the colocation segment of our business," said Eric Chouinard, President and Chief Executive Officer of iWeb. "The cumulative co-location hosting capacity of our two current data centers has always been limited, as they are both primarily dedicated server hosting facilities. The addition of this strictly colocation hosting data center will enable us to diversify our revenue base, extend our footprint in the Montreal marketplace and target a broader customer base."
Like iWeb's two existing data centers, the new site will be engineered for an N+1 level of redundancy in this case. The facility was previously used as a data center, and has much of the necessary infrastructure already in place. iWeb has leased the property for up to 30 years, and has an option to purchase the building.
iWeb was founded in October 1996 by Martin Leclair and Eric Chouinard, and offers shared hosting, dedicated servers or colocation, with more than 52,000 square feet of floor space. iWeb provides services in English, French and Spanish to clients in more than 130 countries. The company went public in 2004, with its shares listed on the Toronto Venture Exchange under the symbol IWB. The company had revenue of $2.6 million in the quarter that ended June 30, up from $1.54 million in the year-earlier period.
