Several major data centers are located right next to the Bay Bridge in San Francisco, including facilities for 365 Main and ServePath/GoGrid. One reason for that location is easy access to a major fiber line that tracks the bridge. Barrett Lyon notes that workers from the California Department of Transportation (CalTrans) had to physically relocate the Bay Bridge fiber conduit over the Labor Day weekend as part of emergency repair work on the bridge. "Nothing has gone down or is broken, but it is fun for folks to understand that a bridge such as the Bay Bridge carries much more than cars," Barrett reports.
