Mountain Development has filed plans to build a large data center in Clifton, New Jersey, according to local media. The company is the developer of the Mountain Technology Center at 100 Lackawanna Ave., where colocation provider Telx is the anchor tenant.

Mountain Development hopes to convert a former chemical company building at 2 Pekay Drive in Clifto into a 212,000 square foot data center, according to local media. The site is adjacent to the Mountain Tech Center, where Telx just added another 15,000 square feet of raised floor data space to its footprint.

"We have been proactively adding square footage in New Jersey to give customers more room to grow and explore new opportunities," Eric Shepcaro, CEO of Telx, said earlier this week. "We are also finalizing plans for an even larger expansion in the NY/NJ metro area due to customer demand."

Mountain Development president Michael Seeve told The Record that the new data center should be finished by 2013. He estimated construction would cost more than $14 million. Mountain Development's purchase of the property, which has an asking price of $4.6 million, has yet to close.
