Cloud automation specialist Opscode announced today that Christopher Brown will become the company's Chief Technology Officer and company co-founder Adam Jacob has been named Chief Product Officer. Opscode said the appointments will help accelerate the company's development and product delivery process during a period of rapid new growth for its infrastructure automation tools.
Brown had been serving as Opscode’s Vice President of Engineering. Prior to joining Opscode, Brown was Director of Engineering for the Edge Computing Network for Microsoft and was a founding member, architect and lead developer for Amazon’s Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2). Brown began his career in 1993 at Microsoft and holds several patents in the areas of Internet routing, VM/runtime hosting, content delivery and cloud computing.
"Under Christopher Brown's technical vision and execution, thousands of organizations have signed up and are using the Opscode Platform, the world's first and only hosted SaaS platform for automated infrastructure deployment and configuration management", said Jesse Robbins, CEO and co-founder of Opscode. "Much like Christopher's early work creating Amazon's EC2 helped lay the foundation for the shift to cloud computing, Christopher's breakthrough work in architecting the Opscode Platform is helping customers actually realize the power and promise of the cloud – namely speed, scale, agility, and lower cost.”
Jacob is a co-founder of Opscode and the creator of Chef, systems integration software that uses repeatable code – organized as “recipes” and “cookbooks” – to automate the configured and management process. Prior to founding Opscode, Mr. Jacob spent 13 years as a systems administrator and founded HJK Solutions, an automated infrastructure consultancy.
The Opscode platform offers server configuration management delivered as a service. Cloud computing and virtualization have made it easier than ever to create new servers on demand. That’s placed a premium on configuring and managing all these new servers so they can work together effectively in a cohesive infrastructure. Opscode offers pre-built images for Amazon Web Services, Rackspace and VMware to get users started.
