Graham Weston, CEO of Rackspace Hosting, recently spoke at a TEDx San Antonio (the x means it was an independently organized event from the TED series), where he discussed his aspiration to change the way organizations are managed. Rackspace is known for its unique corporate culture and in this talk, Weston explained how he guides his organization to succeed on a human level. "When we pay attention to what people want from work, everything gets better," he stated. "What we all want from work is to be valued members of a winning team on an inspiring mission."

Weston describes how 200 "Rackers" (Rackspace employees) joined forces to turn an empty department store into a shelter for victims of Hurricane Katrina (within 24 hours) and how that project ties into his firm's organizational culture. The project galvanized Weston's employees around a cause for which they were all passionate. That energy, Weston said, is what creates epic workplaces. Rackspace currently has more than 3,000 employees and serves more than 100,000 customers globally.

TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. For more, visit the Tedx San Antonio site.
