It is a sad day for the data center industry. Shane McGew, the data center technologist behind the Tech Hermit blog, has passed away. His son, William McGew, has posted the news and a note to the community.

"My dad came to the 'internet' kind of late to the game but had always been in roles where he supported the data centers of various corporate companies and colleges in the area," William writes. "He really loved what he did. I wanted to thank you for keeping his world interesting in the last few years of his life and I can honestly say that he appreciated and loved interacting with everyone. Knowing my dad, he is probably walking around the data center in heaven telling God what he can do to improve his P.U.E."

Shane was an important voice in our community, and through his Tech Hermit blog he shared his industry knowledge, insight and wit. He was generous with his links and comments, but always called it as he saw it. He will be sorely missed. If you knew Shane or read Tech Hermit, please take a moment to read William's blog post and share your recollections. As Tech Hermit would say "Go on  now, git!"
