Here’s our review of some of this week’s noteworthy links for the data center industry:

AIS launches Life Sciences platform.  American Internet Services (AIS) unveiled  AIS ClearCompute, a Life Sciences Software as a Service (SaaS) platform that supports a growing library of popular research tools including BLAST, Galaxy, and RNA-Seq commonly used by biotech, genomics sequencing, and pharmaceutical scientists. Working closely with AIS, Cirrhus9 helped to develop the AIS ClearCompute platform. Cirrhus9 co-founder Paul Laskin is a former Pfizer Pharmaceuticals IT executive and pointed out how research scientists have been clamoring for easy access to on-demand compute and storage resources where they can run their critical applications in a secure, scalable, high-performance environment. “Applications outsourcing (AO) is taking off in the Life Sciences industry and companies need confidence that they are dealing with a service provider who has a strong commitment to security and regulatory compliance,” said Paul Laskin, co-founder of Cirrhus9. “With a private optical network that runs between multiple data centers in San Diego and Phoenix plus substantial domain expertise and investment, AIS is the ideal ‘go-to’ partner for any Life Sciences firm wanting to move into the cloud or augment in-house IT infrastructure.”

IO selected by Kyriba.  IO announced it has been awarded a contract by Kyriba Corporation, a leader in cloud-based treasury management solutions. Delivered via redundant mirrored data centers in Phoenix and New Jersey IO will provide Kyriba with its Data Center as a Service to support its cloud computing-based applications. "Kyriba's treasury management solution needs to be continuously available to our clients, and the sensitive nature of our clients' financial data means that security is paramount," said Don Gerraputa, vice president of information systems for North America, Kyriba. "When choosing a data center partner, we needed a solution which would meet and exceed our uptime SLA and offer industry-leading security. With its 100 percent uptime guarantee and SSAE16 security, IO enables us to offer the best possible service to our clients, and has significantly improved out RTO and RPO capabilities."

ViaWest expands VDI Service.  ViaWest announced the addition of KINECTed Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) service, powered by Dizzion, to its portfolio of KINECTed Cloud products. Virtual desktop images can be configured to meet specific departmental or company-wide requirements and every desktop comes fully packaged with networking, patching, updates, anti-virus, O/S licensing and more. “Dizzion is extremely pleased to be partnering with ViaWest, an industry leading technology infrastructure solutions provider,” states Steve Prather, Dizzion Chief Executive Officer. “Dizzion’s cloud delivered desktop services fit squarely within ViaWest’s focus on its customers, innovation and technology.  As customers contemplate outsourcing additional services to the cloud, Dizzion’s offering extends the ViaWest solutions portfolio and its ability to meet this increasing demand."
