Here is a quick roundup of recent news headlines in the data center industry:

  • IT infrastructure outsourcing Architel is planning a major expansion in the Infomart a major carrier hotel in Dallas. Architel's Alexander Muse says the company has reached an agreement with the Infomart on a lease that "will almost double the size of our space here in the building by July 10th." Muse said the expansion will be used for reception space, offices and conference rooms in addition to a new server buildout room. "This should allow us to grow our data center footprint by around 50% and open up two more client access colocation facilities," he said.

  • Host.net has opened a new 7,000 square foot colocation center in Boca Raton, Fla., where the company has already filled two data centers to capacity. "Host.net has a devoted foundation of enterprise clients, and we're excited about the opportunity to offer this new space as we continue to enhance our services and offerings," said Lenny Chesal, VP of Strategic Accounts and CMO for Host.net, whicht now operates 16,000 square feet of enterprise-class colocation space in South Florida.

  • It turns out that Comcast, which has some history with peer-to-peer networks, is among the recent investors in P2P-enabled content delivery player GridNetworks Inc.. Comcast teamed with Cisco and Panorama Capital to provide $9.5 million in funding.
