Cloud storage service provider Nirvanix announced that the Nirvanix Storage Delivery Network (SDN) is the digital archive platform for the National September 11 Memorial and Museum's archive of audio, video and photographs. Museum president Joe Daniels said “With so much audio, photos and videos thus far collected as part of the Museum's permanent collection, we found that we had an immediate need to archive a very high volume of digital data quickly." The memorial and museum will use digital media to document what happened that day as well as the aftermath and will be located on eight of the 16 acres of the World Trade Center site.
Private storage cloud. SearchStorage has an excellent article about private storage clouds. The article discusses a General Services Administration request for quote and the definition (or ambiguity of) a private storage cloud. They land on a definition stating that an internal storage cloud is "private storage capacity owned or at least controlled by the company, accessible programmatically over an HTTP connection and capable of delivering low cost, highly scalable storage with easily managed multi-tenancy." A couple of weeks back IBM unveiled their Smart Business Storage Cloud, offering multiple petabytes of capacity.
ISC selects UnitedLayer as a Colocation partner. UnitedLayer announced Monday that they have signed a multi-year contract with Inernet Systems Consortium (ISC). UnitedLayer will provide colocation, cross connect and IP services in its San Francisco data center.
