CoreLink Data Centers adds Continuity Focus as a colocation customer, Fortinet announces new security appliances, XO reports first quarter results.

Here’s a roundup of some of this week’s headlines from the data center and hosting industry:

CoreLink selected by Continuity FocusCoreLink Data Centers announced that they are now providing Continuity Focus with innovate colocation solutions.  CoreLink was attractive to Continuity Focus because of their 24-hour network uptime guarantee as well as 24-hour remote hands service.  “Our relationship with CoreLink has allowed us provide our clients with a stable environment, zero downtime as well as a guarantee them that their business functions are secure," said Jon Newman, Chief Technical Officer at Continuity Focus.

Fortinet debuts new appliances. Fortinet announced two new flagship multi-threat security appliances that consolidate best-in-class firewall and Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) performance with advanced application-based security protection that is purpose-built for large enterprises.  The new FortiGate 3950B is built for data center and network perimeters, delivering 120 Gbps of low-latency firewall inspection performance.  The FortiGate 3951B appliance incorporates internal storage and can scale up to 100 Gbps of firewall performance.  Both models can also be deployed to include any combination of IPSec/SSL VPN, antivirus/anti-malware, web filtering, anti-spam, data loss prevention, and voice security services.  "Due to increasingly complex threats and network connectivity requirements, sophisticated and granular multi-threat prevention that is capable of operating at wire speed is becoming an absolute necessit," said Charles Kolodgy, research vice president, Security Products with IDC. The FortiGate 3950B and 3951B will begin shipping this quarter.

XO Holdings reports first quarter results. XO  Holdings (XOHO) announced its first quarter 2010 financial and operational results. A decrease of $8.3 million over a year ago was seen in first quarter revenues of $369.5 million.  A net loss of $16.6 million was reported, an increase of $12.1 million compared to the net loss of $4.5 million in the first quarter of 2009.  During the first quarter of 2010 XO completed their upgrade of its network to enable 40 Gbps services in all major metropolitan U.S. markets the company serves.  Additionally they added a fourth international gateway to Latin America and partnered with an international service provider to offer high-capacity circuits between the U.S. and Europe. The XO Enterprise SIP was named Internet Telephony's 2009 Product of the Year in January 2010.
