Here's a roundup of some of this week's data center industry news headlines:

  • Emerson and Sun Announce Global Sales Alliance: Emerson Network Power and Sun Microsystems announced a global alliance last week that will pair Sun's data center efficiency consultants with Emerson's local Liebert power, cooling and services specialists. Together they will assess, develop and maintain solutions to a variety of customer data center problems. The two teams have already jointly designed an energy efficient solution for Sandia National Laboratories.

  • SoftLayer Launches Parallels Panel for CloudLayer Computering: Data Center and hosting services company SoftLayer began offering Parallels Plesk Panel as an optional service with CloudLayer computing instances, giving customers more control and operational efficiency. "Parallels Panel was designed to enable our partners like SoftLayer to build more flexibility and value into their solutions, and extend all of its benefits to their customers," said Jack Zubarev from Parallels.

  • Chatsworth TeraFrame Simplifies Deployment of Juniper Switches. Chatsworth Products Inc. (CPI) now offers the N-Series TeraFrame cabinet, which was designed to accommodate the Juniper Networks EX8200 line of switches. "Engineered specifically for the switches using side-to-side airflow, the N-Series TeraFrame with integrated Network Switch Exhaust Duct captures hot exhaust air from the side of the switch and re-directs it away from the cabinet, converting side-to-side airflow into a front-to-rear airflow pattern in host aisle/cold aisle layouts". The new CPI cabinet also features advanced cable management, offset doors and side panels and snap-on plastic T-shaped cable management fingers.

  • Pegasus TransTech building new data center. Tampa, Fla.-based Pegasus TransTech announced that it is building a new corporate data center in Tampa, and will open a third data center this fall in Minneapolis. Pegasus maintains a 12,000 square foot facility in it's current location and will move to the new leased space at Tampa's Corporate Center IV. The company has maintained a redundant facility in Madison, Wisconsin and the third data center in Minneapolis is to support the company's record growth. Grubb & Ellis brokered the move.

  • Cisco website outage: The Register reports that attempts to access the cisco.com web site yesterday were met with an error message. Cisco U.S. representatives did not have an answer and Cisco UK said the site was "being updated." The Register reports the outage lasting between 1 and 2 hours.

  • Tata Communications opens Kolkata data center. India-based IT giant Tata Communications announced the opening of a 6,000 square foot Eastern India data center located in Kolkata (formerly Calcutta). The facility will be the first commercially available tier III data center of its kind in the region. The Kolkata facility is a part of a $2 billion investment plan over the next three years. Tata has nearly 1 million square feet of data center space worldwide.
