Here’s a roundup of some of some of this week’s headlines from the data center and hosting industry:

  • Internap: What's next for CDN? TelephonyOnline has an interview with Internap (INAP) CEO Eric Cooney.  The first part of this interview focuses on the Content Delivery Network market that Internap entered when they acquired VitalStream in 2007.  Internap ended up taking a $99 million charge on those CDN assets in October 2008.  Eric Cooney started as Internap CEO in January of this year and will essentially try to reboot their CDN business by launching a new platform this year. Cooney sees CDN as an extension of the company's IP services offering, and said Internap will narrow the focus to a more video-centric CDN.  "It's not as differentiated as we'd like it to be," said Cooney "We haven't done as good a job differentiating our CDN capabilities as we think we can do going forward."

  • BLADE and Emulex collaborate. BLADE Network Technologies and Emulex announced that they are kicking off a global co-marketing campaign at VMWworld. "Emulex and BLADE are working together to bring our shared vision of converged networking for the data center to customers and channel partners worldwide," said Steve Daheb, Chief Marketing Officer for Emulex  After VMWorld the two companies will continue at Storage Networking World Europe in October, showcasing converged networking with next-generation technologies including 10 Gigabit Ethernet, virtual port switching, iSCSI and FCoE.

  • APC by Schneider Electric earns Power Quality Equipment Company of the Year award.  The 2009 Frost & Sullivan Asia Pacific Industrial Technologies awards were handed out last week and Schneider Electric was awarded the Power Quality Equipment Company of the Year. This award is presented each year to the company that has demonstrated excellence within the industry, including strong management and consistent growth.

  • Tata Communications data centers in Pune, Chennai and Delhi. An official from Tata Communications said that there are plans to build data centers in Pune, Chennai and Delhi in the near future.  Tata has 16 data centers around the world and opened new facilities in Singapore, Kolkata and London in 2009.  Tata also announced it will provide cloud infrastructure on the NetApp platform.  NetApp recently announced a new cloud infrastructure foundation for the enterprise and highlighted partner relationships.
