Here’s a roundup of some of this week’s headlines from the data center and hosting industry:

DoD certifies 15 Juniper routers. Juniper Networks (JNPR) announced that 15 of its custom edge router solutions have been tested and certified by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) for interoperability with Defense Department networks and have been added to the Unified Capabilities Approved Product List (UC APL). The certification allows J Series routers, SRX series gateways, M series routers and MX series 3D edge routers to be deployed by various military services to carry converged mission critical, real-time services such as voice video and data communications. "This round of JITC certifications demonstrates our commitment to providing a robust portfolio of network solutions that meet the highest level of connectivity standards," said Brian Roach, vice president, Federal, Juniper Networks. "Juniper Networks has a proven ability to ensure that critical government communications are delivered with high QoS, even in the face of network congestion."

Marvell announces new switch.  Marvell (MRVL) announced the Marvell Prestera CX8297 packet processor with support for up to 96 ports of 10GbE and up to 32 ports of 40GbE. The new CX8297 was purpose-built for a full suite of Layer 2-4 switching, for solving cloud connectivity and service delivery challenges. The switch supports 1.28 Tbps full duplex line rate switching with 96 ports of 10GbE and up to 32 ports of 40GbE with a full complement of L2-L4 as well as CEE capabilities. "We are experiencing a paradigm shift in data center architectures as they evolve to the cloud-centric model," said Paul Valentine, vice president of marketing for Marvell Semiconductor's Enterprise Business Unit. "The growth of public, private and personal clouds is driven by challenges around ease of management, power and equipment costs, enabling a host of new revenue-generating models. The Prestera CX8297 provides a compelling platform to build, deploy and operate these solutions."

Fusion-io expands with Dell and Zendesk.  Fusion-io announced that it has extended its OEM alliance with Dell to offer additional ioDrive flash memory models. Dell has also now qualified Fusion’s ioMemory technology for five of its PowerEdge servers. Through the expanded OEM relationship, Dell will offer three additional ioMemory-based products – the 320 and 640 GB ioDrives and the 1.28 TB ioDrive Duo – in addition to its previous ioDrive products. “As our customers continue to experience exponential data growth, the ability to place their most active data on servers with shared data decentralization becomes increasingly appealing for speeding up applications and enterprise database performance,” said Brian Payne, executive director of Platform Marketing for Dell’s PowerEdge Server portfolio. “With storage memory products from Fusion-io, Dell PowerEdge customers will be able to engineer a more powerful and flexible data infrastructure to meet their growing data needs.” Fusion-io also announced that cloud-based help desk services provider Zendesk has deployed Fusion’s ioMemory to meet its growing performance needs. By decentralizing its most active data from storage to the server where it is processed, Zendesk tripled the data set size its database could support. “Zendesk’s innovative team has engineered a shared data decentralization solution that enables the company to achieve the enterprise performance and reliability expected by their impressive client base without the costly overhead associated with less efficient disk-based solutions," said Neil Carson, Chief Technology Officer of Fusion-io.

IceWeb unveils 600HR storage. IceWeb (IWEB) announced that they have expanded their storage line with its new, top-of-the line, highly-redundant 6000HR series of Unified Storage Systems. The model features 6TB, 12TB and 24TB configurations and when configured with SSD the high-speed read/write cache enables the 6000 to handle large data volumes at unprecedented speeds. “The 6000HR series is the perfect entrée into the mid-to-high end enterprise storage market,” said John R. Signorello, IceWEB CEO.  “The Model 6000HR is designed for high-performance, mission-critical applications where ultra-reliability is mandatory. With no single point of failure, automatic error correction and a host of other built-in storage management capabilities, our 6000HR series provides enterprise-level performance and reliability for any size organization at breakthrough price points.”
