Here’s a roundup of some of this week’s headlines from the data center and hosting industry:

OpSource announces Cloud-Based Disaster Recovery. Cloud and managed hosting provider OpSource announced the availability of OpSource Cloud-Based Disaster Recover (OpSource Cloud DR), a new managed disaster recovery service for the cloud that enables organizations of all sizes to scale resources up and down in response to a data center outage. The service mirrors an organization’s production environment and acts as a recovery site on activation. As a cloud solution there is no equipment to purchase for  colocation - instead the users pay only for what computing resources are being used. Customers can use the OpSource web-based user interface or API to ramp up systems and services to provide a full system recovery in less than four hours. "Although most companies have a disaster recovery program in place, it is typically either costly or not comprehensive enough to provide the level of support needed when faced with a catastrophic situation that threatens to disrupt the flow of business,” said Treb Ryan, CEO of OpSource. “OpSource provides more than just infrastructure. We take a leadership role in helping customers understand the process, procedures and available capabilities so that they can implement a disaster recovery plan that supports their business while reducing data center costs.” Cloud-Based Disaster Recover costs $2,500 for setup and as little as $125 per server per month.

Nimsoft selected by RackForce. Nimsoft announced that RackForce, a leading provider of hybrid cloud computing solutions, has deployed Nimsoft Monitor to provide 24/7 monitoring of its clients’ critical infrastructure. Utilizing the Unified Management Portal will allow Rackforce to provide their clients with improved insight into the health of their infrastructure while enabling reduced support and overall operating cots. "The versatility of Nimsoft Monitor is ideally suited for RackForce’s secure multi-tenant, highly scalable hybrid Cloud services,"said Brian Fry, co-founder and vice president of RackForce. "This helps ensure we meet our SLA requirements and provide our clients with much more detailed reporting and performance metrics that we couldn’t provide in the past."

Riverbed selected by SAME DEUTZ-FAHR.  Riverbed (RVBD) announced that SAME DEUTZ-FAHR, one of the world’s leading producers of tractors, combine harvesters, diesel engines and farm machinery, has successfully deployed Riverbed Steelhead appliances in its European and Indian offices to support a data center consolidation initiative. SAME DEUTZ-FAHR hoped to address increasing traffic volume and increasing latency with a WAN optimization solution and selected Riverbed after a rigorous review of the market. "Within minutes of unpacking the Steelhead appliance, the system was deployed at our German subsidiary with no requirement to change our existing infrastructure,” said Luciano Bearzi, system and network manager, SAME DEUTZ-FAHR.  “The test produced excellent results, and we immediately noticed a significant improvement in application response times.  Suddenly we were able to access information over the WAN in a matter of seconds, compared to the minutes it took previously.”

Ixia used for Dell Virtualized Server testing.  Ixia (XXIA) announced that Dell, Inc. has selected Ixia as one of its key partners for performance testing on its PowerEdge server line. Dell chose Ixia’s platform because of its ability to match the scale, performance, and flexibility necessary to test large rack servers. Ixia’s solutions thoroughly test high-capacity virtualized data center networks and storage infrastructures by addressing key challenges, such as service availability, infrastructure elasticity and provisioning, capacity, end-to-end application and services delivery, and performance across all layers.  "Large virtualized data servers like the Dell PowerEdge are now the norm in new data center deployments, with unprecedented scale, flexibility, and complexity," said Ram Periakaruppan, vice president of L4-7 product development at Ixia. "Our cost effective, large-scale test solutions are designed to exhaustively characterize any system with any set of applications."
