It's been a very busy news week, so we'll be catching up with a couple roundups. Here's some news items from the connectivity and services sectors:

  • Wilshire Connection, a leading metro fiber network provider in Los Angeles, has extended its dark fiber network to two additional buildings in downtown Los Angeles located at 1200 West 7th St. (the Garland Building) and 900 N. Alameda St. (the Wilshire Annex building). Wilshire Connection has also lit a new network route between all of its Los Angeles network Points of Presence (PoPs) to Las Vegas, where the company has deployed a PoP at SwitchNAP, providing access to any of the SwitchNAP facilities throughout Las Vegas. “As one of the few metro dark fiber providers in Los Angeles, we have further leveraged our reach to offer network connectivity to Las Vegas, with connectivity to any of the SwitchNAP facilities," said Eric Bender, President of WILCON. "This extension enables direct, high-quality connectivity between Las Vegas and just about any core communications building in downtown Los Angeles."

  • Lexent Metro Connect has deployed a dark fiber optical network for Telx, one of the largest and fastest-growing domestic interconnection and colocation data center operators. The dark fiber network links Telx facilities at 60 Hudson Street and 111 8th Avenue in Manhattan. The network supports the Telx Metro Cross Connect service that provides TDM and Ethernet connectivity at various speeds between Telx’s New York area colocation facilities.

  • Savvis, Inc. (SVVS) announced Monday that it has joined the Microsoft Software + Services Incubation Center Program to help independent software vendors (ISVs) prepare for service-based delivery. The Microsoft Software + Services Incubation Center Program is designed to ease the challenges ISVs and enterprises encounter as they build and deploy software-as-a-service (SaaS) business models. "Savvis is one of the few Gold Certified Microsoft partners that has unique capabilities to accelerate ISV solutions to software plus services,” said John Zanni, general manager of the Worldwide Software Plus Services Industry team for the Communications Sector at Microsoft Corp. "Through an established provider like Savvis, ISVs get one-on-one business and technical guidance to help deliver applications to market faster than their competition."
