The Planet has acquired 72,000 square feet of additional data center space in Dallas, the company said late last week. The initial phase includes 30,000 square feet of finished data center and support space. The new facility has more than $14 million in improvements, with future capacity for 36,000 servers.

The Planet said the expansion is the first step in its plans to deliver new product offerings. "We are pleased to have the space, bandwidth, and power to meet the increasing demand for The Planet's offerings," said Steve Wallace, vice president of operations. "The additional datacenter space will allow The Planet to offer our customers the ability to scale with us as their businesses grow."

The Planet has added more than 200,000 square feet of data center space in the last 17 months. In January of 2005, The Planet opened a new 51,000 square foot Tier 1 datacenter at the INFOMART in Dallas. In May of 2004, the company also added 21,000 square feet, opening another $8 million state-of-the-art datacenter in Dallas.

The Planet recently announced that its revenues grew 60 percent in 2005. "The Planet had a great 2005," said president and CEO Peter Pathos. " We made some very strong advances in our technology and our customer service, which resulted in less churn and more expansion among our current client base, as well as growth within new customers."
