When it comes to the Tier System, ViaWest is continuing to go where no data center service provider has gone before. ViaWest will pursue a Tier IV design certification, the highest reliability level on the Uptime Institute's rating system, for a new data center project in the Denver market.
ViaWest is the only multi-tenant data center provider to have achieved a Tier IV design certification, at its Lone Mountain facility in Las Vegas. The company said today that it will seek a similar certification for Compark, a 210,000 square foot greenfield build. The new facility will have 140,000 square feet of raised floor space.
ViaWest will offer cloud computing, wholesale and retail colocation and managed services in the new facility, which is also expected to achieve a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) rating of 1.2.
Low Risk Geography
Colorado has seen a lot of activity in recent years, and is a growing hub for enterprise and technology companies. Its low risk geography is good for both production and disaster recovery needs.
“As a Denver-based company for more than 14 years, we are proud to expand our presence in this region to further serve our existing customers and meet the strong demand we’re seeing nationwide,” said Nancy Phillips, President and CEO for ViaWest. “Our dedication to delivering high-touch customer service and a growth path of IT capabilities continues to uniquely position us in the market. We are eager to grow our footprint with the addition of another industry-leading data center facility.”
“ViaWest is a key part of the Colorado technology ecosystem,"said Kristin Russell, CIO for the State of Colorado. "We are so pleased to see ViaWest continue to grow and strengthen its much- appreciated commitment to the IT community in Colorado. Their continued expansion is a strong indicator of the growth within Colorado’s technology sector."
The Compark data center is scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2014. That's the same time that ViaWest plans to open its new data center in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
ViaWest has more than 450,000 square feet of usable raised floor data center space across 24 data centers throughout Colorado, Nevada, Oregon, Texas, and Utah.
An Uptime Tier Classification System design certification is based on design documents. Uptime also offers certification based on completed construction. See this story to learn more about Uptime tier certification.
