Inside the Yahoo Computing Coop - Yahoo! held a ribbon-cutting to mark the opening of its new data center in Lockport, New York, which uses the company’s innovative new Yahoo Computing Coop (YCC) design to dramatically reduce its electricity use.
Verizon Eyes NY State for Major Data Center - Verizon Communications is considering Somerset, N.Y. as the site of major data center that could bring up to $500 million in investment. The huge telecom company is in negotiations to acquire a 160-acre piece of land on the shores of Lake Ontario.
CoreSite Goes Public With IPO on NYSE - Shares of CoreSite Realty Corp. opened begin trading on the New York Stock Exchange today as the company completed its initial public offering. COR closed its first day of trading at $16.01 per share, up 1 cent on the day.
Google: Our Fiber Gets Shot Down - Google network engineering manager Vijay Gill said that Google is digging trenches for underground fiber deployment to its data center in The Dalles, Oregon after repeated incidents in which hunters shot up the company’s aerial fiber cables.
Investors Focused on Data Center Sector - There’s no mistaking it: The data center industry is hot. Data center stocks are outpacing the broader market, and there’s been a flurry of acquisitions and IPOs amid strong interest from investors – especially from the private equity sector.
