Is it a sport? Or just a specialized discipline? It's Speed Cabling (link via Server Specs), and it's making its debut this week in Los Angeles at Machine Project, a gallery for artists working with technology. Speed cabling is a competition in which technologists must untangle lengths of Cat5 Ethernet cable that have been sent through a dryer.

Friday night's finals will feature speed cabling interspersed with lectures. "Come watch this exciting competition, and learn about the history of telecommunications in Los Angeles, knot theory, and much much more," the announcement reads. No confirmation yet of a rumored TV deal with ESPN 8 ("The Ocho!").
