Interconnection and colocation specialist Telx will deploy its Ethernet Exchange service at three more of the company's data centers, the company said today. The new sites are located in Miami, Dallas and Los Angeles, which will join existing locations in New York, Chicago, Atlanta and San Francisco.
The Telx Ethernet Exchange provides enterprise and cloud/SaaS providers greater network choice and faster interconnections, allowing them to connect their Ethernet networks without setting up individual interconnection agreements or building out local fiber networks. The company announced its Ethernet Exchange last June, with plans to deploy the service in seven data centers within nine months. Today's announcement puts the Telx deployment slightly ahead of that timetable.
"Telx has rapidly added Ethernet Exchange service locations in carrier-dense, high-demand U.S. data centers," said Glenn Calafati, VP and General Manager of Interconnection Services for Telx. "With the addition of Miami, Dallas and Los Angeles, we can now offer customers the exponential value of interconnecting via Ethernet technology in the Telx Interconnection Center, a full suite of virtual and fiber-based connectivity solutions. Through our relationship with Neutral Tandem, Telx now offers the best nationwide coverage bolstered by Ethernet technology, enabling customers to connect advanced IP services and access content on Carrier, enterprise and media networks."
In addition to its own facilities, Telx also has an Ethernet Exchange partnership with Neutral Tandem, which is in the process of deploying its own Ethernet exchange service. Telx customers will also be able to access Neutral Tandem’s planned 14 Ethernet exchange locations.
"By continuing to expand its Ethernet Exchange footprint, Telx positions itself well to capitalize on growing demand for Ethernet services," said Aaron Blazar, Vice President, ATLANTIC-ACM, a telecom consulting firm. Blazar said his research indicates that buyers of metro wholesale services indicated they expect their spending on Ethernet to grow by 19 percent in the coming year.
