Here’s a roundup of some of this week’s headlines from the data center and hosting industry:

Arbor Networks Introduces Cloud Signaling.  Arbor Networks announced today the Arbor Pravail Availability Protection System (APS), a new product family focused on securing the Internet data center (IDC) edge. A key feature within APS is Cloud Signaling, a bridging protocol that fills the gap between the data center edge and the provider cloud, where Arbor's Peakflow SP platform is pervasively deployed. The addition of Cloud Signaling automates the connecting of service providers, network operators and data center customers with the mission to ensure the availability of IDC infrastructure and speed time-to-mitigation for distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks. “Colt's information delivery platform has been relying on Arbor Peakflow to detect and mitigate denial of service threats against our and our customers' infrastructure for over five years. Thanks to Cloud Signaling we are expanding our service's capabilities and ensuring the availability of our managed IT and networking solutions,” said COLT’s Network Strategy and Architecture Director Nicolas Fischbach.

Joyent and ClusterTech Partner in China. Joyent and grid and cluster computing solution provider ClusterTech announced a strategic alliance in which ClusterTech will become the professional service provider of public cloud and integration services to gaming, media, social network and mobile service providers throughout Greater China. Joyent's turnkey software SmartDataCenter 6 will enable service providers throughout Asia to quickly turn up and offer their own public, private or hybrid cloud services based on the JoyentCloud.com model.  “Businesses across the globe are seeking technology innovation to deliver quicker time to market and competitive advantage but without strains on budget or IT management bandwidth,” said Dr. WaiMo Suen, CEO of ClusterTech.  “Joyent is the only cloud software provider that also runs a public cloud, so they offer proven cloud software and services to quickly meet the requirements of our clients.”

Platform Announces HPC 3. Platform Computing announced the availability of the next generation of its high performance computing (HPC) management product, Platform HPC 3. Platform HPC 3 includes the power expected of a mature HPC workload scheduler with the added benefit of new features for easily managing heterogeneous cluster environments. The new version includes a redesigned and intuitive interface, enhanced monitoring, fully automated failover capabilities for workload management, improved cluster management, and support for a variety of widely used commercial and open source technical applications such as ANSYS Mechanical or Fluent, and Schlumberger ECLIPSE. “Platform HPC is an integral part of our HPC offering to the scientific and research communities.  By coupling the improved usability of this product with our PowerEdge servers, we’ll continue to reduce the complexity of our customer’s HPC environments allowing them to drive faster results and discoveries,” said Donnie Bell, Director of Enterprise Software Solutions, Dell Inc.
