Here’s a roundup of some of this week’s headlines from the cloud computing sector:
Nirvanix selected by National Geographic. Nirvanix announced that the National Geographic Society has moved its backup and archival of large unstructured multi-media files to the Nirvanix Cloud Storage Network. National Geographic made the decision to move from physical to cloud and selected the Nirvanix CloudNAS Gateway to encrypt data both in flight and at rest and then securely transfer data to any of eight globally distributed cloud storage data centers. "Given the growth of our unstructured content files, we had to find an alternative to the traditional approach of continually buying physical storage capacity for our archival needs," said Dan Backer, Director of Infrastructure Systems, National Geographic Society. "The Nirvanix Cloud Storage Network gives us the on-demand scalability and bandwidth we need to back up and archive our massive digital content with a true pay-by-the-drink model. Most importantly, we can be sure that our data is continuously accessible by keeping multiple live replicas in the cloud in multiple geo-diverse locations."
Nimsoft integrates with HCL Technologies. Nimsoft announced that HCL Technologies has integrated Nimsoft Monitor into HCL MyCloud Watch, a hybrid cloud monitoring offering that provides cost-effective, unified monitoring of client infrastructure and services. HCL MyCloud Watch leverages Nimsoft Monitor and its multi-tenant architecture to optimize visibility into complex computing environments. HCL also supports Vblock Infrastructure packages, which Nimsoft is able to monitor, and heterogeneous monitoring of private and public cloud platforms and services. "Global IT services companies like HCL succeed by leveraging lightweight cloud solutions that enable them to offer their clients compelling value propositions, without burdening themselves with a lot of IT complexity," said Chris O’Malley, Nimsoft CEO. "Nimsoft Monitor is being widely embraced by these providers precisely because it delivers rich functionality in such an adaptable and cost-effective way."
SOASTA and Shunra joint offering. Network virtualization and application performance engineering company Shunra Software announced a joint solution offering with SOASTA. The joint offering provides an integrated functional and performance test platform for mobile applications, and includes Shunra’s vCat and NetworkCatcher Express Mobile products with SOASTA’s recently announced CloudTest platform with TouchTest technology. The combined solution provides a reliable and accurate platform for functional and performance testing, using real-world mobile network conditions from any iOS or Android mobile device. “The natural synergies and completeness of vision offered by Shunra and SOASTA means organizations around the world now have a proven means for ensuring a positive end user experience before they deploy mobile applications,” said Gary Jackson, CEO of Shunra. “Because every second of delay impacts revenue, productivity or customer loyalty, this joint solution is an invaluable component of any organization’s testing practice, and we are pleased to partner with a leader like SOASTA in support of our goal of delivering an end-to-end mobile performance test platform.”
