Here’s a roundup of this week’s headlines from the cloud computing sector:

Oracle unveils cloud in a box. Oracle (ORCL) announced the Exalogic Elastic cloud this week at Oracle Openworld in San Francisco.  The Exalogic Elastric Cloud combines 64-bit x86 processors, an InfiniBand-based I/O fabric and solid-state storage with Oracle WebLogic Server, other enterprise Java Oracle middleware and a choice of Solaris or Linux.  This integrated hardware and software system was engineered for large-scale, mission critical deployments and enterprise-class multi-tenancy or cloud applications. “Oracle Exalogic Elastic Cloud is a complete system of servers, network, storage, VM, operating system and middleware, all engineered to work together,” said Oracle CEO Larry Ellison. “This delivers stunning results, including the fastest Java performance, elastic capacity on demand and a completely fault tolerant system.”

Nasuni unveils Filer 2.0. Cloud gateway provider Nasuni announced its new Nasuni Filer 2.0, with enhanced performance for Hyper-V server virtualization, Windows Azure, Distributed File System (DFS) namespaces, and Windows Previous versions. Additionally the Filer now supports private clouds and lets customers provide their own cloud credentials. “Our goal is to make the Nasuni Filer the storage device of choice for coping with data sprawl and the daily demands of the IT workplace. The 2.0 release offers primary storage to the cloud to more users and has exciting new pain-killing features, such as one allowing end users to restore their own files so IT does not have to be dragged into every file restore," said Nasuni CEO Andres Rodriguez. With the private cloud support Nasuni is hoping to enable Managed Service Providers in providing complete cloud storage solutions to customers via partners such as Rackspace, OpenStack, EMC Atmos and Nirvanix Hybrid Cloud.
