Cognizant is investing an initial $25 million to open additional data centers in North America and Europe in support of its cloud offerings. The company is planning to build data centers in Arizona and Virginia in North America, as well as Slough, UK, and Amsterdam over in Europe.
The new facilities will house and power ithe company's cloud platform and services, giving it a bigger and more geographically diverse footprint in which to serve its clientele. Cognizant is a provider of information technology, consulting, and business process outsourcing services.
The new facilities will strengthen Cognizant’s infrastructure management capabilities for those customers looking to cloud, and it believes this initial investment will give it an additional advantage.
"In the absence of industry standards, we believe that service providers without strong in-house infrastructure solutions are less likely to seize cloud-related opportunities, while those that integrate in-house capabilities with system integration and professional services, like Cognizant, will be more successful in providing cloud solutions in the global services marketplace," said Ross Tisnovsky, Senior Vice President of Research at Everest Group, in a press release.
Robert Boles, Senior Vice President of Cognizant’s IT Infrastructure services practice recognizes customer demand for cloud, and Cognizant’s need for infrastructure to support these cloud ambitions.
"Clients need to modernize their IT capabilities and bring consumer IT models to their users, and at the same time virtualize their infrastructure, rationalize costs, and improve productivity through flexible, as-a-service business models," said Boles. "With our expanded cloud capabilities across our network of data centers, we can greatly enhance our ability to fulfill this growing client need."
Cognizant offers an enterprise-class, multi-tenant cloud infrastructure platform out of its facilities. It will continue to expand its capabilities around cloud within these facilities, and this initial investment speaks to that commitment.
