IBM Creates Cloud-Computing System for NATO - International Business Machines Corp., the world’s biggest computer-services provider, is building a cloud-computing system for NATO in the first such deal for the international military alliance. The software and hardware will let NATO more quickly collect and analyze data, such as military intelligence in Afghanistan. From Bloomberg.
Open Data Center Alliance Charts Future - A new industry consortium made up of IT managers is building a set of blueprints on how best to build and operate data centers and cloud infrastructures, and in doing so, its members hope to serve as a unified voice that drives the future direction of the technology. The Open Data Center Alliance, formed in late October, is made up of IT managers from 70 large corporations from different industries worldwide, including BMW, Deutsche Bank, JPMorgan Chase, Lockheed Martin and Marriott International. Voltaire Signs Software License Agreement with IBM - Voltaire Ltd. (VOLT) today announced a license and development agreement with IBM Corporation. Under the terms of the agreement, Voltaire will license selected software to IBM. Voltaire expects to receive license fees and non-recurring engineering fees totaling approximately $17 million through 2012, the majority of which Voltaire expects to receive in 2011. Press release.
Unisys Helps CDC Data Center Gain Certification - The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Mid-Tier Data Center in Atlanta, managed by Unisys Corporation ( UIS), was recently certified as one of the first U.S. federal government data centers compliant with the ISO/IEC 20000 standard for best practices related to delivering managed services that meet business and customer requirements. Phoenix NAP Adds Tinet - Phoenix NAP said this week that Tinet, a Neutral Tandem company (TNDM), has deployed a Point of Presence (PoP) within the Phoenix NAP facility. Tinet will offer its portfolio of high performing global connectivity solutions out of Phoenix NAP, including IP Transit services utilizing both IPv4 and IPv6 routing, and Ethernet services.
