Here’s a roundup of some of this week’s headlines from the data center and hosting industry:

Telehouse launches Shanghai facility. KDDI, the parent company of Telehouse will launch Telehouse Shanghai, providing colocation services in Shanghai, China.  Following the opening of Telehouse Beijing, the addition of Shanghai will its global footprint to approximately 113,000 square meters (1.2 million square feet).  The facility is located in Shanghai's Pudong district in cooperation with Shaghai Data Solution Co., Ltd., a data center that provides redundancy related services via career diversity in Shanghai.  The facility will have N+1 power and environmental systems, and provide access to China Telecom and China Unicom communication providers. Additional services will be available through KDDI Shanghai and KDDI Communicaitons Engineering Company.

Cloudera and Netezza partnerCloudera and Netezza (NZ) announced an agreement to connect Netezza data warehouse appliances and Apache Hadoop, making it possible for customers to gain more insight from their data. Cloudera's enterprise product will have a connector that enables data movement and transformation between the Netezza TwinFin appliance and Cloudera's Distribution for Hadoop (CDH). “Hadoop is a powerful complement to Netezza systems," said Brad Terrell, Vice President and General Manager of Digital Media, Netezza. "Maximizing the interoperability between Netezza and Hadoop and enabling our customers to better leverage each technology for its unique strengths creates value by enabling our customers to solve large-scale data analysis challenges in ways previously not possible."

EMC adds midrange Dedupe system. EMC introduced a new, midrange deduplication storage system that drives continued price/performance increases into the Data Domain product line.  The new EMC Data Domain DD670 will contain Intel Xeon 5500 series processors and gains speed from the recently released EMC Data Domain Boost software. A new EMC Disk Library 5000 series and deduplication storage expansion option for its Disk Library for Mainframe system were also announced.  “We continue to outpace competition by leveraging the Data Domain SISLTM (Stream-Informed Segment Layout) scaling architecture and new Intel processor technology to drive higher levels of system performance and capacity," said Shane Jackson, Senior Director of Product Marketing, EMC Backup Recovery Systems Division.  The EMC Data Domain DD670, expansion shelves with 2 TB drives, and the Deduplication Storage Expansion option for DLm960 will be available in Q3 2010. The DL5100 and DL5200 virtual tape libraries are available now.
