Here’s a roundup of some of this week’s headlines from the data center and hosting industry:
Hardcore Computer Executive awarded patents. Hardcore Computer announced that their president, CTO and founder Chad Attlesey was issued three patents in his name, for a total of six in the U.S. and one in Japan to date. Hardcore is the maker of the Liquid Blade submersion cooling system. Patent number 7905106 was awarded for “Case And Rack System For Liquid Submersion Cooling of Electronic Devices Connected In An Array.” Patent 7911782 was awarded for a “Liquid Submersion Cooling System." Patent 7911793 was awarded for “Case And Rack System For Liquid Submersion Cooling of Electronic Devices Connected In An Array." “These patents solidify our leadership in computer cooling technology,” said Attlesey. “This reflects our commitment to innovation and our focus on producing excellent products that provide practical, substantial improvements in performance, reliability and cost-competiveness for our customers.”
Brocade selected by U.S. Army. Brocade (BRCD) announced it is working with the United States Army as part of the Installation Information Infrastructure Modernization Program (I3MP) at Fort Carson to create a highly resilient network to support advanced voice, video and critical military applications in an effort to modernize the base's core enterprise information infrastructure. Brocade said the installation represents one of the largest core-to-edge deployments of 100 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE)-ready routers and 10GbE aggregation and LAN switches. "The selection of Brocade by the United States Army's I3MP program is a significant win for Brocade, highlighting our proven expertise in providing high-performance, non-stop networking solutions to government organizations worldwide," said John McHugh, chief marketing officer, Brocade. "By meeting the I3MP network and service requirements, Brocade is well-positioned to further extend its market presence within the government sector as a leading networking provider to support and optimize mission-critical applications."
Schneider to acquire TELVENT. Schneider Electric announced the signing of a definitive agreement with Telvent GIT (TLVT) for the acquisition of Madrid-based Telvent, a leading solution provider specializing in high value-added IT software and solutions for real-time management of mission critical infrastructure in the fields of electricity, oil & gas, water and transportation. With the acquisition Schneider gains a value-added software platform that presents a good fit with its own range in field device control and operation management software for the smart grid and efficient infrastructures.“The acquisition is in line with our ambition to become a complete solution provider for our customers," said Jean-Pascal Tricoire, Schneider Electric’s President and CEO. "Telvent offers software capability that complements and integrates with Schneider Electric’s offering. It also brings complementary customer base and geographical coverage. Together, we will be able to provide our customers with high value added solutions that integrate smart devices and full software capability, hence reinforcing our position in the smart grid and critical infrastructure space.
