Hitachi Data Systems is continuing to build out its 'data drives our world' vision with a virtual storage platform and Hitachi Command Suite.
This week Hitachi Data Systems announced its next generation in storage information management - the Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform (VSP) and Hitachi Command Suite (HCS). As a single platform for all data, Hitachi is aiming to make it virtualized and cloud ready, automate manual tasks and let the customer manage it all centrally.
"Today, only the Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform and Hitachi Command Suite provide the scalability and integration that will transform the data center with new levels of agility, flexibility, performance and sustainability," said Hitachi Data Systems CTO Hu Yoshida.

The three dimensional aspect to VSP is scaling up, to meet application and server demand, scaling out, to support multiple servers with changing workload requirements, and scaling deep to extend the platform's capabilities and value to heterogeneous storage. Put another way, the VSP scales for performance, capacity, and external storage asset utilization. With 2.5 inch SAS hard drives, it is the highest density storage available today.
“Today’s data centers are reaching an inflection point, evolving into something that is more agile, scalable and efficient,” said Roger Cox, research vice president, Gartner, Inc. “Storage vendors that deliver on the critical requirements, such as 3D scaling, are what enterprises are looking for to transform their data center into an infrastructure that meets the demanding requirements of today’s virtualized environment.”
Use cases for how VSP will benefit customers include deep integration with VMware vSphere and Hyper-V, integration with the Hitachi NAS Platform, and as an ideal foundation for organizations moving towards the Hitachi Unified Compute Platform.

The HCS provides effective reporting and management to maximize IT asset utilization within complex infrastructures, unified management for virtual tiered storage and server environments, and improved business application availability, performance and access to critical data.
HCS will manage more than 5 million objects and 255 petabytes of virtualized capacity under one management server. It also provides a single multi-vendor storage management view for storage, servers and IT infrastructure. HCS incorporates service level management and provides visibility into the virtualized or cloud infrastructure through a dashboard. Hitachi's VSP and HCS are available worldwide.
