Here’s our review of some of this week’s noteworthy links for the data center industry:
Dell acquires Clerity Solutions. Just one day after large acquisition news with Wyse Technology, Dell announced it has acquired Clerity Solutions, a provider of application modernization and re-hosting solutions and services. As a part of Dell Services the Clerity solutions will help customers transition business-critical applications and data from legacy computing systems and onto more modern architectures, including the cloud. Dell will bring Chicago-based Clerity’s approximately 70 employees to the Dell Services team, and plans to make continued investments to grow the applications modernization capabilities of its Services business. “Unlike other providers, Dell remains committed to open architecture computing and to helping our customers implement optimal platforms for their applications,” said Steve Schuckenbrock, president, Dell Services. “Increasingly, these x86 platforms are enabling super-scale cloud environments, and the addition of Clerity gives us a clear advantage in helping customers modernize and migrate their applications off outdated hardware infrastructure to more current architectures. We are thrilled to welcome the Clerity team to Dell.”
OnX partners with Violin Memory. Enterprise data center IT solutions provider OnX announced that it has entered into a strategic partnership with Violin Memory, which is pioneering the use of flash memory as primary data storage. OnX will provide its clients with business-oriented end-to-end IT solutions that incorporate Violin flash memory arrays. OnX has integrated Violin’s flash memory storage arrays to deliver performance improvements across a wide range of use cases, including: database acceleration, business critical application acceleration, virtualization and big data analytics. “Clients continually call for higher performing solutions while simultaneously requiring agility and lower total cost of ownership,” said Ken Hoppe, vice president of Violin. “With this partnership, our joint clients will be able to rapidly deploy Violin’s flash memory storage solutions to improve enterprise application performance and create competitive advantage – based on technology designed for the modern silicon data center.”
LSI launches Nytro PCIe flash portfolio. LSI Corporation (LSI) introduced the Nytro portfolio, a family of solutions that combines PCIe flash technology with intelligent caching and management software to achieve accelerated application performance in data centers and cloud environments. The Nytro family of products will help customers achieve up to 30x faster database transactions, over 4GB per second sustained throughput to perform high-speed data analysis and includes LSI SandForce flash storage processors with DuraClass technology. Nytro products include WarpDrive Application Acceleration Cards, a XD Application Acceleration Storage solution, MegaRAID Application Acceleration cards, and the Nytro Predictor Software tool. The integration of flash technology in enterprise system architectures is one of the most significant changes in recent computing history based on its ability to close the gap between compute and storage performance,” said Gary Smerdon, senior vice president and general manager, Accelerated Solutions Division, LSI. “From cloud providers in mega datacenters to traditional enterprise and small-to-medium businesses, the Nytro portfolio brings the value of flash to the masses by offering customers the flexibility to choose the right solution to meet their specific application and budget requirements.”
