On this video from the Web 2.0 summit held this week, Mary Meeker, veteran Internet analyst and partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield Byers, highlights significant trends shaping the Internet today and in the future. She presents a great deal of research and data about what people are doing online and on mobile platforms. Meeker said global brands such as Apple, Google, Amazon.com and Facebook "remain mega-leaders," while Chinese and Russian ventures continue to gain competitive advantage. Global uptake of the Web is increasing around the world, with 81 percent of users of top Internet properties located outside the United States. Also, she reported that mobile revolution is still in its infancy and poised for tremendous growth. While iPods and iPhones were quickly adapted, iPads have outstripped the growth of their "siblings." Her presentation outlines the newest breakout trends driving e-commerce, including the rejuvenating effects of local commerce and the global race to adopt mobile devices and apps. Video (runs 31 minutes) is below and her presentation slides are available at KPCB.
