A power outage at a Primus data center in Melbourne is being blamed for yesterday's  Internet connectivity problems in Australia. Local media reports indicate that Primus' primary generator at its data center at 55 King Street failed to start properly after a utility outage. The outage caused loss of service for ISP customers including Westnet, iiNet, Netspace, Internode and TPG.

A manging director at Internode told TechWorldthat the Primus facility was operating on a single generator. Not that you need one, but another clear case of the importance of redundancy in power infrastructure.
