Here’s a roundup of recent headlines from the data center industry around the world:

Equinix Opens $65M Sydney Data Center.  Equinix (EQIX) announced the phase one opening of its third Sydney International Business Exchange (IBX) data center, known as SY3.  The $65 million facility is located in south Sydney and provides 1,000 cabinet equivalents of capacity, expanding to 3,000 with subsequent phases. "We continue to see strong demand for secure and well-connected data centre space in the Sydney market,” said Darren Mann, managing director, Equinix Australia. “We are experiencing a lot of demand from cloud and financial services companies. In the financial services sector the market requires the highest levels of reliability and lowest possible network latency for applications such as high frequency trading.” SY3 has direct fiber connection to SY1 and SY2 data centers which are less than a mile away.  Sy3 will support 4kVA per cabinet and has been designed in accordance with LEED Gold standard.

Interxion selected by Crytek.  Interxion (INXN) announced that Crytek GmbH has chosen Interxion’s Frankfurt data center to host its online Media platforms. Interactive entertainment studio Crytek selected Interxion to house its company web presence, corporate web site, community web site, its new modding portal and an internal test platform.  "Particularly for the provision of real-time content for premium online game ‘Crysis’, it is important to make sure the end user can enjoy an undisturbed, failure-free experience. Due to the high network density, Interxion’s data centre campus is particularly suited to support these requirements," said Avni Yerli, Managing Director of Crytek. "Its comprehensive choice of networks makes us independent from a single carrier, and we can benefit from low latencies, high service quality and bandwidth savings when compared to other locations."

Increasing demand for Cannon Technologies T4 POD. UK-based Cannon Technologies announced that it is seeing a growing demand for their T4 Data Center POD and POD Plus - solutions that can be retrofitted quickly and easily into existing data centers. In a turnkey project, Cannon installed two PODs at the Redstation data center, which is based at a former Ministry of Defense site. Client Hertfordshire-based Imagination Technologies has also invested in Cannon T4 Data Center solutions. T4 POD and POD Plus are designed to help companies retrofit the latest generation of data center technology in older buildings that have access or compliance issues. Cannon Technologies Sales Director Max Zaccaria said: “We are not surprised at the growing popularity of T4 Data Centre PODs. They enable data centres to upgrade to the latest energy-efficient technology in a very cost effective way.”
