Here's a roundup of recent headlines from the data center industry around the world:
Terremark selects Interxion. Interxion announced that Terremark (TMRK), will deploy its Infinistructure platform in Interxion’s Cloud Hub Community at its Brussels data center. "The decision to deploy our Infinistructure platform in Interxion’s facility was an obvious choice,” said Kurt Glazemakers, CTO, Terremark Europe. “Interxion was able to provide plenty of available space and great power density to meet the platform’s needs. The exceptional range of connectivity options also enables us to offer our customers greater flexibility and thus great cost savings.”
Equinix UK data centers achieve ISO 27001. Equinix (EQIX) announced that it has received ISO 27001 certification for all five of its International Business Exchange (IBX) data centers in the UK. An independent agency assessed operating resources, personnel, physical security, communications and operations procedures, access management, system and software development, maintenance, business continuity planning and legal compliance. “Equinix is committed to supporting its customers’ mission-critical operations whilst meeting recognized and acclaimed best practice security procedures,” says Russell Poole, General Manager of Equinix United Kingdom. “Achieving ISO 27001 certification, together with Equinix’s stringent service level agreements, provides Equinix customers with added reassurance about the resilience of their outsourced operations.”
Global Switch to expand in Sydney. Global Switch announced plans to build a world class data center in Sydney, having received part 3A Major Projects approval from the NSW Department of Planning. Earlier this fall after having a record quarter Global Switch hinted at plans to build another data center in Sydney. Sydney 2 will be adjacent to an existing Global Switch facility, a massive 450,000 square foot data center. The new facility will be 365,000 square feet and is being planned to incorporate innovative design initiatives aimed at achieving long-term energy efficiency. The data center will have a cutting edge on-site tri-generation system powered by a natural gas-fired energy plant and will provide an average of 1,500 watts per sq meter as well as power for cooling and ancillary systems. "We had a record last quarter in Sydney, including new contracts with the Department of Defence and NBN Co," said Global Switch Executive Chairman John Corcoran. "Sydney 2 will provide a vital new data centre resource in Sydney, attracting new customers and providing a growth path for existing customers in Sydney 1. There are a significant number of new data centre requirements in the market place, including from the NSW Government."
