Google announced an expansion of its data center in Pryor, Oklahoma that will add a second building at the campus. The company said the 130,000 square foot expansion will double its server capacity in Oklahoma and add 50 jobs, primarily for local residents.

The new building boosts Google's expected investment in Oklahoma from $600 million to $700 million, the company said. Google's data center campuses typically include two to three buildings housing servers and storage, as well as an office component. The data centers are built in phases as additional capacity is needed.

Google said last September that it planned to add a second data center building at the site. The Mayes County data center, located about 35 miles east of Tulsa, opened last year after construction resumed. The Oklahoma project was announced in 2007, but put on hold following the economic crisis in 2008.

Google’s Oklahoma data center is powered by electricity from Grand River Dam Authority. In an effort to make more renewable energy available to the regional grid, Google has also entered into a long-term agreement to purchase all of the energy from NextEra Energy Resources’ Minco II wind facility.
