Here’s a roundup of some of this week’s headlines from the data center and hosting industry:
Terremark reports fourth quarter and fiscal 2010 results. Terremark (TMRK) reported its results for the quarter and fiscal year ended March 31, 2010. In the fourth quarter Terremark saw income from operations rise to $12.4 million, with 56 new customers added. Total revenues for the fourth quarter and fiscal year 2010 were $82.5 million and $292.3 million respectively. Terremark saw an annualized cloud computing run rate of $21.9 million during the fourth quarter, a 27 percent increase from the previous quarter. More than 65 percent of the the available data center space at the NAP of the Capital Region campus has been contracted.
Microsoft Cloud selected by University of Arizona. The University of Arizona (UA) announced it has selected the Microsoft Business Productivity Online suite to provide 18,000 faculty and staff members with next-generation communications tools to greatly enhance collaboration on the campus. Employees will get 10 GB mailboxes, presence and online meetings and collaboration software delivered as a service, organization-wide. "The team at UA was impressed by the depth of the features and the functionality of Microsoft Business Productivity Online Suite," said Derek Masseth, senior director of infrastructure services at UA. "This Microsoft solution was the one offering that truly met the needs of all of our constituents so they won’t feel like they will have a downgrade in service."
BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management. BMC Software announced the worldwide availability of BMC Cloud Lifecycle Management. Whether driven by service providers or enterprise customers, the software will build and operate private clouds as well as leverage external public cloud resources. New elements include a policy-driven service catalog, self-service web portal, and pre-built ITSM (IT Service Management) integration for ITIL (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) process interaction and compliance. According to Donna Scott, vice president and distinguished analyst at Gartner: “Many IT organizations, however, have set their sights on private cloud implementations during the next two years. This shows how desirable cloud attributes are to IT organizations — with self-service ordering and dynamic provisioning of standardized catalogued services both increasing IT agility and reducing labor and capital costs through standardization and automation. BMC has signed over $100 million in cloud foundation technology deals to date.
Juniper VPN certified by U.S. Defense Department. Juniper Networks (JNPR) announced that its SA Series SSL VPN (Secure Sockets Layer Virtual Private Network) appliances have been tested and certified by the U.S. Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Joint Interoperability Test Command (JITC) for interoperability with Defense Department Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) requirements. "The use of a certified SSL VPN solution in a CAC-enabled PKI environment promotes highly secure network access, continuity of operations during emergencies, and offers significant reductions in inappropriate network use and intrusions," said Bob Fortna, vice president, Defense at Juniper. The SA Series solutions are widely certified and can sustain more than 10,000 concurrent user tunnels.
