Here’s a roundup of some of this week’s headlines from the data center and hosting industry:

IPC extends collaboration with Equinix. Trading communications solutions provider IPC Systems said it has extended its relationship with Equinix (EQIX). The two companies already collaborate in Equinix facilities in Chicago, New York, Toronto and Hong Kong, and will be extending in 2010 to the UK and Singapore. “Because we already supply connectivity to market participants and exchanges across the globe, we believe we can provide a compelling connectivity choice for firms locating in Equinix’s expanding global data center network," said Dave Brown, senior vice president, Global Network Operations, IPC Systems. IPC targets members of the Equinix electronic trading community with their private, secure network interconnects in more than 200 cities across six continents.

Savvis selected by UBS ATS. Savvis (SVVS) announced that UBS Investment Bank's equities electronic trading infrastructure and the firm's Alternative Trading System, UBS ATS, are now hosted by Savvis in its financial data center complex in Weehawken, New Jersey. "As part of our continuing efforts to reduce latency and enhance our clients' ability to achieve performance, UBS has located some of its trading technology - including our smart order router, algorithmic trading engine, and our ATS - to Savvis' data center complex," said Charlie Susi, head of Direct Execution, Americas for UBS Investment Bank.

Level 3 serves Vermont Colleges. Level 3 (LVLT) announced that it has been selected as the prime provider of data Internet and wide area network (WAN) services for the entire Vermont College State College (VSC) system, which has campuses in 17 areas throughout the Green Mountain State. "Level 3 has robust network coverage in Vermont and this relationship will allow VSC to leverage the power of that network to benefit students and faculty alike," said Tracy Guy-Davis, Level 3's general manager for New England.  Level 3 will provide dedicated Internet access for the entire VSC campus as well as WAN services, connecting all campuses via dedicated and secure high speed connections that can scale to meet the growing needs of the VSC system.
