Here's our review of noteworthy links for the data center industry for November 6th:

  • Legg Mason Selects Philadelphia, Baltimore Technology Parks:  Legg Mason Capital Management (LMCM). LMCM will make Baltimore Technology Park its primary data center and will utilize Philadelphia Technology Park as its disaster recovery facility. LMCM specializes in long-term, valuation based equity management for institutional and retail clients around the world.

  • Data Consolidation Could Save Feds $14.6 Billion: Federal agencies could save as much as $14.6 billion over the next five years if they meet data-center consolidation goals, according to a new report. Agencies believe they can achieve cost savings amounting to one-third of the $45.7 billion federal IT budget if they can reduce the number of federal data centers by 45%, from 2,094 to 1,152, according to a MeriTalk survey of 200 federal civilian IT managers conducted in September.   • VISI Becomes First Tier III Design Certified  Data Center in Minnesota: VISI, the Minnesota-based data center, managed hosting and cloud computing provider, was awarded Tier III Design Certification from Uptime Institute for their Eden Prairie, Minnesota facility. VISI is the first commercial data center in Minnesota to receive the Tier III Design Certification from the Uptime Institute.

  • Eeyak and Horizon Data Centers Get GSA Agreement: The General Services Administration (GSA) recently awarded a Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) to Eyak Technology and their Enterprise IaaS provider partner, Horizon Data Center Solutions. The award is a five year, competitively bid contract, and is the culmination of the government’s mandate to move Federal computing to the Cloud.

  • Adhost Opens Third Data Center: Adhost Internet, one of the Seattle region's leading providers of server colocation, dedicated servers and cloud hosting, has finished construction of its third data center in Fisher Plaza in downtown Seattle. Press Release.

  • GitHub Suffers Outage:  The social coding portal GitHub experienced downtime Sunday when a configuration error caused an procedure designed to run on its test environment was accidentally to run against the production environment. "Due to the configuration error GitHub's production database was destroyed then re-created. Not good," wrote CEO Chris Wanstrath.

  • Suit takes aim at proposed Verizon data center:  A lawsuit filed today takes aim at the proposed Verizon data center in Niagara County, contending that local and state officials ran roughshod over laws, regulations and the public's right to comment in approving plans and tax breaks for the massive project..
