Here’s our review of some of this week’s noteworthy links for the data center industry:
Verizon launches HIPAA Cloud. Verizon Enterprise Solutions (VZ) announced a comprehensive cloud and data center infrastructure portfolio specifically designed to help the health care industry meet the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements for safeguarding electronic protected health information. A full range of public and private cloud services are available that meet applicable physical, administrative and technical security controls under HIPAA, including Colocation, Managed Hosting, Enterprise Cloud, Enterprise Cloud Express Edition, and Enterprise Cloud Private Edition. "Today's health care provider is faced with the enormous and costly burden of protecting personal health information for patients," said Dr. Peter Tippett, chief medical officer and vice president of Verizon's health IT practice. "To address this need, we are bringing to market a suite of cloud services that enables health care providers to secure patient data while offloading the burden of building and managing their own data centers. By enabling a connected health care system, we intend to transform U.S. health care delivery."
Hostway launches Vancouver cloud. Hostway Corporation launched its new Vancouver Cloud hosting environment, expanding the company's public cloud environment for complete coast-to-coast access in North America. The Vancouver, British Columbia facility is the third North American Hostway datacenter to come online and since it is a Vancouver-based cloud, it allows Canadian customers to store data under the purview of Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), as opposed to the United States' Patriot Act. "We've seen tremendous demand among our existing customers for a non-U.S., West Coast data center for a variety of reasons," said Mark Adolph, executive vice president and chief financial officer for Hostway. "Not only is geographic diversity for disaster recovery important, but this new option also provides access for Asia-Pacific companies looking to host in North America. We also expect Canadian companies that prefer to or are required by law to host in Canada will fuel fast expansion of our Canadian cloud."
PhoenixNAP selected by Trigon Technology. PhoenixNAP announced today that Trigon Technology, a technology management company, has selected the data center for its hosting needs. PhoenixNAP was selected for its geographical location, variety of services offered, and competitive pricing options. “Colocating our critical business systems at Phoenix NAP will ensure that our systems are more redundant and reliable than ever. This strategy directly translates to a higher level of service and response times to our clients and exemplifies Trigon’s ongoing commitment to investing in its people, processes and technology. Selecting a premier data center partner in Phoenix NAP ensures that a critical piece of Trigon’s aggressive growth plans is securely in place,” said Michael McLaughlin, Trigon Technology partner.
