Winner of the 2009 Innovation in Data Centre Design award, Bristol City Council's data centre is located underneath the historic Bristol Council building in the city of Bristol, which is west of London. Through a partnership with Future-Tech, the data centre has developed a cost-effective, energy-efficient manner of cooling – a water-cooled system utilizing the moat surrounding the council building. This video features a tour of the data centre, explanation of the innovative water-cooling moat system, and interviews with John Willis, project manager, and Geoff Endicott, asset management programme manager, on the challenges of situating a data centre beneath a functional council chamber.
