Regional data center service provider Peak 10, Inc. has acquired bayMountain, a Richmond, Va.-based data center company that specializes in managed hosting and colocation services. Peak 10 said the deal expands Peak 10's presence in its core market in the Southeastern U.S., and enhances the company's technical capabilities and service offerings.

Peak 10 now operates 10 data centers in seven markets. It acquired Nashville's Rentech and its facility last august, and in January it announced a new Jacksonville data center.

"The current market for outsourced IT services is strong and is driving demand for high-end data center space and managed services," said Jeff Spalding, Peak 10 executive vice president, market operations. "This acquisition of bayMountain and RenTech in Nashville just six months prior, combined with our aggressive approach to enhancing and expanding our other data centers ... (will) solidify our position as a market leader."

bayMountain provides managed hosting and colocation to enterprise clients, with expertise in complex server clusters, Microsoft Exchange, Linux, wide area networks for geographically dispersed operations, high speed data backup and virtualization. bayMountain has its own data center in Ricjmond, and a customer list that includes McGuireWoods, Target Marketing, Getloaded.com and Richmond Cold Storage.

"The combination of several factors makes bayMountain an attractive acquisition," said David Jones, president and chief executive officer of Peak 10. "The company's people and facility are world class and the Richmond market is strong and growing. Moreover, there are strong business links between Richmond and our other markets and, as well, the location provides Peak 10 with strategic access to Charlottesville, Northern Virginia and the Tidewater region."

"The acquisition by Peak 10 gives us the breadth and depth we need to remain committed to the Richmond market by providing the resources for data center expansion and the expertise and commitment to stay on the leading-edge of data center services," said Mark Wensell, Ph.D., vice president, engineering of bayMountain. "We are joining forces with a company that shares our customer-centric culture and operating philosophy. As a Peak 10 company, we will continue our proven track record of providing the highest levels of service and technical expertise to our customers." Wensell will continue on as general manager of Peak 10 Richmond.

Peal 10's customer portfolio includes LendingTree, BayCare Health System, Broyhill Furniture, Churchill Downs, Rivals.com and Pergo. Inc. magazine recently ranked Peak 10 as one of the fastest growing private companies in America for the second consecutive year.
