The long-awaited U.S. debut of the online music service Spotify has generated a lot of buzz in recent weeks. The service, which has 10 million users in Europe, is hosting its servers with Carpathia Hosting, which helped Spotify manage demand during the initial surge of users upon the service's American launch.

"Ensuring the success of Spotify's US launch was very important to us, so we wanted to make sure we took the time to find the right hosting provider," said Oskar Stal, CTO at Spotify. "We were impressed with Carpathia’s breadth and depth of service and the team’s commitment to deliver a complex deal within a very short timeframe. They have proven their wealth of experience and commitment to us since the start of the project, and we look forward to working with them going forward."

Complex Hosting Solution

Carpathia provided Spotify with a complex hosting solution that includes a managed network with bandwidth, switches and routers, system monitoring and professional
services. That included examining performance metrics on both the Spotify-provided and managed servers, which Carpathia called " a unique service offering
in the hosting space."

"Our unique approach, using cloud computing principals, has allowed us to develop solutions to manage immense amounts of storage in the most reliable and cost-effective manner possible," said Jon Greaves, CTO of Carpathia. "Content providers seeking a hosting company able to maintain massive storage and bandwidth requirements should take a closer look at Carpathia Hosting."

Carpathia currently manages over 35 petabytes of storage, manages over 680 gigabits of sustained network traffic and has seen significant growth over the last several years as it has become a go-to-provider for companies with global compute, storage and network management requirements.

Spotify offers on-demand access to over 15 million songs. It now has more than 10 million registered users and more than 1.6 million paying subscribers across 7 countries in Europe. Since its launch in the US in July, it is now available in eight territories.
